“To me, memory is jumbled and imprecise–some things stand out impossibly and heroically strong, while other contexts and characters shift and change and fade in and out.

I use painting to translate this process of recollection, captured crisply and evenly in reference photography and video, into more complex and layered depictions of interpersonal relationships and family. Some parts are obscured while others are sharp and conspicuous, light glares off a form and hides another. I am interested in exploring how themes of listlessness, loneliness, and frustration can be layered in with joy and compassion, all focused around one moment. I believe there is an inherent sense of care and joie de vivre in the process of observing a seemingly ephemeral moment, suspending it, sitting in it.”
